| Description: | In 1976 Bill Gibsons father had enough of Bill & his weight lifting buddies monopolizing the family basement. A simple statement Hell boy, you need to move led to various trips with his mother and father to look at different vacancies around the small town of Washington. The old Smith Motor building on Main Street was constructed of steel I beams and concrete, just perfect to house the heavy iron used in that era. A lease was signed and Gibsons Gym was born. This small town hobby turned business soon became a destination by some of the worlds top body builders of the times as well as local gym rats. Bills foresight to purchase Nautilus equipment solidified Gibsons position as a pioneer in the fitness center industry. Fast forward to the 80s. Gibson purchased the building from the Smith family and expanded the operation into the basement area as well as upstairs. The additional space made room for more cardiovascular equipment & an increasing demand for the selectorized or Nautilus type equipment. Not long after the silver anniversary of Gibsons Gym, Bill decided to sell the operation to his daughter & her business partner, Kevin Hopkins. Hopkins spent his time as a competitive bodybuilder and worked as a chief formulator for different supplement companies. In 2004 he solidified this by publishing Macrobolic Nutrition, a book showing the impact of blood sugar & insulin on body fat & lean muscle. At this point, Gibsons underwent a major transformation with the addition of another building & a complete updating of the building, facilities, making a complete modern fitness center. In 2007, Hopkins bought out Gibson, purchased all the real estate associated with the health club & continued revitalization. Gibsons now offers 2 group exercise rooms, over 70 pieces of cardio equipment, over 150 pieces of strength training equipment, stretching equipment & a complete core training program.
